FOOTBALL
A football tournament involving 16 village teams from across the Manda Wilderness has become a regular event, with the final in December. Each game attracts a crowd of several hundred people, whose enthusiasm frequently spills on to the pitch. Each team has kit provided by the Trust, and Trust-donated footballs are in constant demand.
CANOE RACES
Village teams compete for honours in the annual dug-out canoe race on Lake Niassa, with both men's and women's squads competing. Prizes are presented by Gerard van Dijk, a long-time resident at Nkwichi and strong supporter of the Trust.
CHOIR FESTIVAL
The Trust organises a yearly Choir Festival, held at the roofless colonial-era Cobue Church. Each of the 16 villages sends a choir made up of the twenty finest village voices, supported by a Choir Master class run by one of the Trust's volunteers. Drums, dancing, beautiful voices, a full moon and a huge goat feast combine to make a memorable evening.
